John Colombero says Vista surgeon severed nerve in his throat
By David Hicks – Staff Writer
VISTA – A North County jury has awarded $1.1 million to an Oceanside man who claimed the negligence of a Vista surgeon left him unable to speak normally and suffering from chronic nausea.
John Colombero, a 40-year-old self-employed personal trainer, has not worked since January 1996, when he went into Tri-City Medical Center for minor surgery to remove an overactive parathyroid gland from his neck.
But during the surgery Colombero’s doctor, Stephen Wilson, severed an important nerve, according to Colombero’s attorney, Gregory Patton.
The alleged mistake has left Colombero, who is married with three children, with vocal chord damage, digestive problems and daily nausea.
